Zion Church Choir
It
is the aim of our Choir to enhance, with music, our Sunday Holy
Communion Service and special services throughout the year. We
practice at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday morning, preparing hymns, anthems,
and service music. We are a very congenial group of singers
numbering about 12 very regular and others who join us when they can.
We can gather about 20 voices for the major festivals of the
Church Year such as Christmas Eve and Easter.
All our singers are volunteers. Some come with training in school
choirs and a few have had further training. We do not audition
and welcome anyone who has a desire to sing in a group setting
(Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass). We take pride in our work
together.
We have a volunteer principal organist who is spelled once or twice a
month by a paid organist so that he can sing too. We also have a
Soprano who plays the organ for most weekday services and on Sundays
when there is a winter storm.
Other Choir activities include helping to sponsor and provide
refreshments for our Parish Knickerbocker Memorial Concert Series.
The most recent of these was November 2007 when we arranged for
the St. Petersburg (Russia) Men's Ensemble to perform at Zion. We
participate with other Church Choirs in our area for ecumenical
services, and we recently hosted a Cabaret Night to raise money for
Choir Vestments. Because we love to socialize, we have a yearly
picnic in the Summer.
We always need new voices!! Interested? Contact us at: churchoffice@zionparish.org
